We are people first initiative

Atrium Health and the YMCA of Greater Charlotte partnered in 2017 to improve health outside of our gyms and doctor’s offices. We know that health happens in the community, and together we want to make sure we are improving wellness and health for all in our community.
Our first social innovation initiative, People First, is a neighborhood-centric approach to improving health and wellness through creativity and innovation. For more information, visit wearepeoplefirst website

What is a cityjam?

A City Jam is an event where you can help to create the future. Intentional facilitation uncovers the unwritten, unspoken meaning of user-research and existing data by using a human-centered design method to generate creative solutions. The outcome is viable future-focused prototypes that meet the needs of the people they were co-created with.

Who is this for?

Participate in the event and be a part of the real solution, grow your network, and cultivate effective leadership and thinking that you will be able to take into any situation. Our goal is to grow a tribe of like-minded, forward-thinking individuals and empower this group with the innovation tools they need to make a real difference. Come join us and be a part of changing the future!

Success Stories

“One of the best parts about the Jam is solving real-world issues and real-world problems in a meaningful way. The outcome was really fantastic, and I’m so happy I was here.”

Dr. Alexis Carreiro

Assistant Professor, Knight School of Communication, Queens University

“The thing I like about a Jam is that anyone can participate. There are lots of skills and perspectives around the table, and that’s really exciting to me.”

Tom Warshauer

Community Engagement Manager, City of Charlotte

“After CityJam, I felt so overwhelmed with emotion because I care a lot about Charlotte and I care a lot about the city and our urban area. It means a lot to me to find out how much other people care about it too.”

Christine Edwards

Community Relations Coordinator, Mecklenburg County
